Betta fish due to their naturally aggressive and fighting nature, especially between the two male adults are named as Siamese fighting fish. The betta fish fight for a number of reasons. They do so primarily to protect their territories and also to ensure that they have enough food to sustain life normally. Also, the betta fish fighting is very common for they always want to be the king of them all especially when the breeding time approaches nearer. These in fact are the natural or genetic traits present in these betta fishes, no training or any changes can in fact help you make your fish not fight. For being natural fighters they cannot lose their tendency and are thus fighting fishes.

Becoming familiar with the native habitat and living conditions is often a great way to make sure that your bettas live longer. The betta male fishes are often the ones that fight most commonly. It is thus advised to never keep two male betta fishes in one tank that does not have a partition, for they surely will fight until the one with a lower power or fighting capacity loses its life.

Generally the males of the fish population are often the most aggressive who even respond to their own reflection in the mirror. The use of a mirror in the aquarium or fish tank is thus avoided especially the one that houses the male betta fishes. The female betta fishes are often the one that are docile and harmless and even 5-6 of them can easily and peacefully live together in just one single home calmly.

Like all the other community fishes the betta fish can also harass and kill the smaller fishes in the tank but most commonly only the male betta fishes bother other males and react only when the other fishes are aggressive to them. Otherwise they are also shown to live life peacefully and harmlessly with other members of the tank that may belong to the other species too.

Also, there may be incidences when a betta fish may bite or pinch another fish even when it is not a male. In all such situations taking out the violent member and keeping it separate from others is advised. There in all exist just one way to increase the chances of your betta fish not fighting and harming the others. This is by keeping the two male fishes completely separated and using a fish condo when two male fishes and just one tank exist is often the best way to help these fighting fishes from not fighting and harming others.
